What do you and Ricky Gervais, creator of The Office, have in common?
You’re both cat lovers! And if your social media feed is anything like his, then you have cat pictures enough to last until the deepest of scrolling is done.
On Gervais and partner Jane Fallon’s feeds, you’ll find scads of content featuring Pickle Gervais, their darling tabby cat.
Pickle recently joined the family, starting off as a foster cat, but it was soon apparent she would be a ‘foster fail’. In October, it became official, Pickle the cat would be a Gervais forevermore.
From Foster to Forever
In March of 2020, Gervais and Fallon’s beloved cat Ollie passed away. The cherished cat had been part of the family since 2003 when Jonathan Ross gifted then kitten Ollie to Gervais. After some time had passed, the pair decided to foster a cat to help ease the pain of Ollie’s loss.
Known first as Catkins, the tabby girl came from a shelter to stay with Gervais and Fallon while she waited for her forever home. Not too long into her stay, Catkins knew she’d found her forever home. Her humans figured it out pretty quick. Gervais shared the moment he knew on Instagram, “Quick update on the cat we’re fostering. She keeps getting on my lap and staring at me. We’re keeping her.”
By the end of the day, Catkins received her family name with Fallon introducing her to the world in a tweet, “Meet Pickle. Full name Picklicious Fatkins the First.”
Thanks to Gervais’s sublime silliness, let’s enjoy some Pickle pics, shall we?
Pickle loves her dad’s antics, he’s just so silly…
But Pickle enjoys a good selfie too!
And as cats don’t believe in personal boundaries, Gervais shared the purrfect shot of a “furry penguin watching me take a bath.”
Because he loves his Pickle so, Gervais admits, “I’ve done no work since I got this cat.”
And who could blame him with this sweet face staring! Like most cat lovers, Gervais realizes, “Ancient civilisations used to worship cats as gods. Trouble is, they’ve never forgotten this.”
And cat parents will do everything in their power to give cats the luxury such divinity deserves. Check out Pickle’s fine throne for napping…
But for everything we give them, cats still leave us to ask questions with obvious answers like this one, “I wonder who’s been sharpening their claws on the back of the sofa.”
And maybe they can be a little “mental”…
But we love them anyhow, just like Gervais and Fallon love Pickle!
