The Tiny Terror’s new cat window door

Good To Know

I just bought a cat door for my window.

Why would I want to do that?

The Tiny Terror has been scratching at my screen to let me know he requires entrance into my office.  He waits until I open it, meanders inside, and wants to be fed, “MeNOW.”

It annoys him to wait for me to reposition the screen and reattach it to the window.

In an effort not to damage his delicate cat psyche, I scoured the internet and finally found a solution on Amazon:

Ideal Pet Products Aluminum Sash Window Pet Door, Large, 7.5″ x 10.5″ Flap Size, White

This beauty is all aluminum, and the cat door is made out of “unbreakable clear Lexan.”

What could go wrong?

  1. I’m not good at math and it was 2 inches too short for the window…
  2. …which meant that my better half had to cut a piece of wood as an insert.
  3. Oh, but this gets better.

My desk is next to the window, just at the right height to allow the cat window door to open about an inch.

Said desk weighs about 200 pounds.

We had two choices:

Either move the desk or

raise the entire cat door window thingy up about a foot.

My better half spent a few more hours finding a piece of wood that almost fit, measuring, cutting, and finally installing.

There was another problem: The Tiny Terror would have to leap 3 feet from the ground.  We knew for a fact he’d never do that.

It took about a week of pushing him through it from the outside and inside, but he finally got the idea that he no longer had a door(wo)man.

He wasn’t happy about the new self-service addition.

He slowly sticks his head out to look around for anything that might chase him…

Then…slowly…he slinks out the door.

It has a latch, too, just in case there’s a hurricane and I need a way to keep the water out.

If you’re in the market for a cat door for your window, this seems to be a good choice for the humans.  But my cat isn’t amused.
