Does your indoor cat want outside? Do you have a door dasher and worry about your cat’s safety? Many cat parents struggle with the indoor/outdoor dilemma and a catio, an outdoor “cat patio”, is a purrfect solution. Catios can provide peace of mind, safety, and the stimulation cats crave on a daily basis.

In honor of National Animal Safety and Protection Month and as the founder of Catio Spaces, I’m pleased to give away 25 DIY Catio Plans to help keep cats safe outdoors and protect birds and wildlife. Our award-winning plans are available in a variety of designs and sizes for a window, deck, patio and garden. Each plan includes a materials and tool list, step-by-step instructions and diagrams for a successful project. And best of all, catios can be painted and decorated to complement your home and garden. Build a catio your cat will love!

Why a Catio?

According to The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), “by establishing a safe space outdoors, like a catio, your cat can gain the benefits of being outdoors without the risk of injury, predation or theft.”

It’s no secret that the average lifespan of an outdoor catio is 2-5 years, whereas indoor cats often reach the age of 17 or more.

Our mission at Catio Spaces is to keep cats safe, healthy, and happy while protecting birds and wildlife. Cats naturally want to express their hunting instincts however they can have a negative impact on the bird population. Catios are a win/win for our fur and feathered friends.

National Animal Safety and Protection Month is also a good time to review safeguards to keep your cat safe all year long, including removing toxic plants and poisons from your home, investing in pet identification, and creating an emergency preparedness and evacuation plan.

Stay safe and well.  Life is good in a catio!
