Morning at the farm and YoYo tries the lure for the first time since being a shelter dog

Veterinary medicine news
It’s a beautiful morning and Luke is walking with Wolf and the dogs around the property. He stops at the site we’ve just started building a dry and sheltered area for everyone to enjoy during these extra wet periods we’ve been experiencing.

The bus arrives and we all head down to greet all the doggies.

First up it’s lure time. It’s the first lure session for Wednesday’s pack this year. AND it’s the first lure session for lure loving YoYo since he was a shelter dog way back then.

He loved it back then and he still is obsessed about it.

Dogs can enjoy the sport of lure coursing without being dangerous or of risk to other small dogs. You do need to TRAIN and SOCIALISE them appropriately. All the shelter dogs we have taken in have had extremely high prey drive. It is a lot of work and really you can simply avoid the problem by not letting them off leash around small dogs. But avoidance isn’t how we personally like to train. There is no one way to train, this is simply ours. But by teaching what is acceptable and what is not by integrating the lure into his training sessions for high level distraction, YoYo gets to intensely love lure coursing amongst a pack like this and know … this is a game, that is just a poo bag and the cinnamon puff running beside me at top speed is Cutie Pie, my very good friend.

Adam has this brilliant idea of using a decoy so the dogs follow that whilst the real lure with line attached is set out without the risk of pack members getting tangled. A truly awesome idea Adam THANK YOU!
